Viktoria and Matt’s Romantic Elopement

Viktoria and Matt’s Romantic Elopement took place at the Old Treasury Building in the heart of Melbourne in May. The autumn leaves were definitely on a show with their vibrant warm colours complimenting this Melbourne couple’s beautiful love story.

Viktoria and Matt first met two years ago, just before Melbourne went into lockdown. For 6 weeks they had weekly online dinner dates online through Skype. When restrictions eased this couple had a park picnic and have been together ever since.

Their elopement was intimate, relaxed and fun. Viktoria’s mum found the perfect dress for her daughter to wear, it was flowy, it had a train that could be bustled, straps for support and it was on sale! The bride and groom choose their best friends Neisha and James to be by their sides.

Viktoria choose to use silk flowers from Desflora which means she could display her bouquet in their home permanently. Her bouquet had neutral earthy colours, mixed in with Australian natives.

The couple got ready at Stamford Plaza which is within walking distance of the ceremony location. This made everything fast and easy.

The bride walked down the aisle to The Piano Guy’s cover of A Thousand Years surrounded by best friends acting as witnesses and their immediate families. The couple has family overseas who couldn’t make it out to Australia to attend. So they decided then that we didn’t want to have a big wedding if some of the people most important to them couldn’t be there. They opted to Livestream the wedding for my family overseas and also for our friends and extended family locally.

Q&A with the couple

What was your favourite detail of the day?

How it felt truly a reflection of us and our relationship and how much fun we have had the last couple of years despite the changes that the world has gone through.

What was your favourite photograph, video clip or moment of the day?

We especially loved the photos taken around the Conservatory, absolutely stunning! (Even if we weren’t allowed inside)

Do you have any stories to share from the day?

Pocket squares! I don’t think Matt and James ever imagined the biggest challenge of the day would be in how to fold a pocket square and the raw footage of the struggle is hilarious! I’m so glad that moment was captured for us to cherish forever. Perfect comedic moment!

Tell me five things, which made your wedding special to you?

We got to marry each other, our best friends. 2. It didn’t rain at all even though it was forecast to but we still got some beautiful photos with the umbrellas. 3. Our closest family and friends were there with us. 4. It was the perfect small wedding for us. 5. We had the best photographers there to capture the day with us!

Any advice for future marriages to be?

There are always hurdles in wedding planning but take each one in your stride. Remember to communicate with one another and enjoy the ride because it finishes so quickly and ends up a blur in your memory! Therefore having amazing photographers is key, especially ones who capture moments on video too so you can relive the memories forever
