Fitzroy Gardens Engagement Session | Jemma & Nick
There’s something special about Fitzroy Gardens in the late afternoon. The paths slow you down, the trees soften the light, and everything feels a little quieter as the sun starts to dip through the leaves.
For Jemma and Nick’s engagement session, we spent the afternoon wandering through this beautiful corner of Melbourne, capturing the little moments that happen naturally when two people are simply enjoying being together.
They chose my Film + Digital package for their session, which meant I got to bring along my husband, Reuben, to join me behind the cameras. While I focused on capturing the story through digital photography, he took the reins with the film camera, adding that beautiful nostalgic feel that only 35mm film can bring.
The plan was simple: wander, chat, laugh, and let the afternoon unfold.
Before the session, Jemma and Nick told me they were both a little awkward in front of the camera. But honestly, I didn’t see that at all. Once we started walking, talking, and forgetting about the camera being there, those nerves quickly disappeared.
My favourite sessions are the ones where we don’t spend the whole time standing still and posing. Instead, we move, explore, tell stories, and create space for those little in-between moments to happen. A hand squeeze while walking, a laugh halfway through a conversation, a quiet moment together under the trees. Those are the memories that feel the most like them.
The late afternoon light was absolutely worth waiting for, wrapping the gardens in soft golden tones and creating the perfect backdrop for their engagement photos.
Jemma and Nick, thank you for trusting us to capture this chapter of your story. It was such a joy spending the afternoon with you both, and we can’t wait to see where this next adventure takes you.
