Autumn Garden Proposal
One of my favourite things about this job is getting to witness moments that people will remember for the rest of their lives, and Andrew and Annabel’s Autumn Garden Proposal was definitely one of those moments.
A few weeks before the big day, Andrew got in touch looking for some help planning a surprise proposal. We chatted about a few different ideas and locations before settling on the Dandenong Botanic Gardens. Autumn had well and truly arrived, and the gardens were putting on a pretty spectacular show with all the golden leaves and beautiful morning light.
On the morning of the proposal, I arrived a little early and found a spot to quietly blend into the background while I waited for Andrew and Annabel to arrive. There are always a few butterflies before a proposal, even for me, and this one was no different.
As they wandered through the gardens together, Andrew led Annabel to the perfect spot before dropping down on one knee and asking the question he’d been planning for weeks. Seeing the look on Annabel’s face as she realised what was happening was such a special thing to witness. The excitement, the happy tears, and the huge smiles that followed are exactly why I love photographing proposals.
Once the excitement had settled and there was a shiny new ring on Annabel’s finger, we spent some time wandering through the gardens for a relaxed engagement session.
The beautiful thing about an Autumn Garden Proposal is that you really don’t have to look far for stunning backdrops. Everywhere we turned there seemed to be gorgeous light filtering through the trees, colourful autumn leaves underfoot, and little hidden corners that felt made for photos.
Rather than worrying about posing, I gave Andrew and Annabel a few fun prompts and little things to do together while we explored. Lots of chatting, laughing, cuddling, and soaking in the fact that they had just gotten engaged. The result was a collection of photos that felt natural, joyful, and completely like them.
Before long, it was time for them to head off and share the happy news with their family and friends. They had a celebratory high tea planned, which honestly sounds like the perfect way to spend the rest of the day after getting engaged.
Andrew and Annabel, thank you for trusting me to be a small part of such a huge moment in your story. It was such a beautiful morning and I couldn’t be happier for you both.
