Aunty Kims Wedding

Hope and Juan chose to get married in that deliciously chaotic pocket of time between Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Melbourne was buzzing, everyone was half on holidays and half still catching up with friends they hadn’t seen all year. It felt like the perfect backdrop for an Aunty Kims wedding. Relaxed, lively and full of laughter spilling into the street.

From the moment guests arrived, there was a sense that this wedding wasn’t about ticking boxes. It was about being together. Long lunches, clinking glasses, big smiles and that feeling you get when time slows down just enough to soak it all in.

Why Aunty Kim’s Is Such a Fun Wedding Venue

Aunty Kim’s is one of those venues that doesn’t try too hard and that’s exactly why it works. Tucked away down a Collingwood laneway, it feels like a secret you get to share with your favourite people. The space is vibrant and full of personality, with a relaxed charm that invites conversation and connection. It suits couples who want their wedding to feel more like a great party than a formal event. Add in incredible food, flowing drinks and the energy of the surrounding streets and you have a venue that keeps the celebration moving naturally from start to finish. An Aunty Kims wedding always feels alive.

A Lunchtime Ceremony Filled With Heart

Hope and Juan chose a lunchtime ceremony, which set the tone for a day that felt light and unhurried. Their ceremony was led by Katherine from Lovers Lane and we can never say enough good things about working alongside her. The care she pours into every word is unmistakable. You can feel how deeply she cares about the couples she marries and that love carries through the entire ceremony. It was personal, warm and full of meaning without ever feeling heavy.

Ten Minutes of Portraits, A Lifetime of Memories

From the start, Hope and Juan were clear. They wanted to spend as much time as possible with their guests. Portraits were important, but being present mattered more. This is where documentary wedding photography truly shines.

We snuck away for just ten minutes, wandering the nearby laneways filled with street art and texture. No stiff posing, no long interruptions. Just the two of them, freshly married, soaking it all in while we quietly documented the magic. We made some beautifully relaxed photos and then headed straight back to the heart of the celebration.

The afternoon rolled on with laughter, hugs and the easy rhythm of a long lunch before everyone eventually made their way to the afterparty at Bodriggy Brewing Company. A perfect ending to a day that was all about joy, connection and letting the good times unfold naturally.

An Aunty Kims wedding like Hope and Juan’s is a reminder that the best days are often the ones where you stay close to your people, trust the flow and let the story tell itself.
