Rowville Newborn Photo Session

Rowville Newborn Photo Session

There’s something so tender about being invited into a family’s home during those first few weeks of life, when everything is a blur of feeding, soft blankets, sleepy cuddles, and the quiet rhythm of getting to know this brand-new little person.

For Cassy and Kane, life with their beautiful baby girl Rumi has settled into that gentle, love-soaked pace. I spent the morning with them in their cozy Rowville home for a newborn photo session, capturing those in-between moments; the yawns, the stretches, the way Cassy smiled down at Rumi as sunlight streamed across the couch.

After a few peaceful hours indoors, we wandered down to their local park for a little walk among the gum trees. The air was fresh, the light soft and golden a perfect backdrop for some documentary-style family photos that felt relaxed and real. Rumi, at just five weeks old, was sleepily content in her parents’ arms as we documented this fleeting season of newness.

It felt extra special photographing this little family because I first met Cassy and Kane a few years ago at Loney Hearts Film Camp in Fitzroy Falls, NSW — the magical retreat put together by Andrew and Grace from Bottlebrush Films. Back then, we bonded over storytelling, creativity, and late-night conversations around campfires. These two are incredible filmmakers themselves, creating emotion-filled, story-driven wedding films that stay with you long after the credits roll.

In fact, if you’ve ever seen Shae and Kurt’s wedding video, you might remember the fiery “Fireball shot” scene — that burst of energy and fun was inspired by Cassy and Kane’s work. So, being invited to capture their own growing story now — their love expanding to include little Rumi — felt like the most beautiful full circle.

This Rowville newborn photo session was everything I love about family storytelling: honest, unscripted, and deeply human. Just a morning filled with love, laughter, and that indescribable magic of new beginnings.
